Police in Modesto, California have arrested Joe Curtis Silva and Nichole Surkala after they found a miniature horse living in the couple's kitchen and dining room! Animal control supervisor John Bear said, "The conditions were horrendous. This miniature horse had been housed indoors for I'm guessing a good length of time by the amount of animal waste that was built up inside the house." They were charged with child endangerment as Nichole's son (believed to be between 10 and 12-years-old) had been sleeping in a tent inside his bedroom to protect himself from flies. The horse and a couple of dogs were taken to the Department of Animal Services. Ironically the animals were in pretty good shape and no charges of animal cruelty were issued. (Modesto Times)

i'd still think that most people wouldn't consider horses to be housepets. did they not have a yard? why wouldn't they shovel up the horse waste & get rid of it? it would seem they knew better and were trying to hide this mini-horse for some reason.. and what about the kid whose age is uncertain? do they not know how old their kid is or not want to say? and were they ignorant or uncaring to their own child? crazy story.

Now I don't know what you all are talking about! These people really have heart, they wouldn't make their animals live any where they wouldn't. Most folks would have a dog out in a yard, with flys all around, and not think a thing about it, or keep their horse in a stable just as filthy, with flys and feel that was ok, but these folks really did experience just what the animals did.........ture animal lovers

i'd say they don't have heart or control of their mental faculties to keep a horse in the house.. that's kind of a given.. like you don't put the dog in an aquarium, you don't keep a horse in the house.. it's not only stupid and disgusting, but cruel to the horse and their son. and i've seen MANY stables that were luxuriously clean compared to that house.
