Highest and lowest waste producers

Hi,

What types of fish are the most and least waste producers?
I know that plecos are well known mass waste makers, also balloon mollys.
And tetras are among the less wasters. What others?
Thanks.

My Mollys and Platys eat a ton and therefor produce a lot of waste. I hear plecos are big waste producers and I know that ottos and tetras are low waste.

Re: Highest and lowest waste producers

Usually the smaller the fish the low the waste produced. Plecs have a straight intestine and food just goes through. I don't think they absorb many nutrients from their food and is why they eat so much. You can actually watch the eat and poop at the same time

Just wondering... Where do Discus fit in on the grand scale of poop manufacturers? I almost NEVER see any of my Discus pooping.

Goldfish are dirty little ones. My angels are clean. And swordtails are moderate.

Big waste producers: goldfish, larger cichlids, livebearers (for their size), catfish
Low waste producers: small, thin fish such as Neons, Harlequins, etc., Bettas

And....since they're my new obsession - puffers are very dirty too.

Aggresive, territorial, dirty, high maintenance....and yet i am obsessed. :
