Loach Tank Journal

I've removed all the dragon and plastic plant decor from my 29 gallon tank. I was going to make this a tank for neons and shrimps but now I've decided to transform it into a loach tank for yoyo and/or angelicus loaches and kuhli loaches.

It'll have a school of dither fish (most likely zebra danios).

I've ordered some slate rock from seacorals.net as well as an x-large piece of fallen driftwood in order to make caves for the loaches. Once that gets here I am ordering 10 vals (to place in the corners of the tank) and 4-5 crypts (for the center) and then all I'll need are the loaches I'd like.

The substrate is currently sand and the filter is a Penguin Bio-Wheel and none of that is going to change.

Well this tank took a turn in a different direction. I planted it with amazon sword, wisteria, crypt wendtii, giant hairgrass and other aquatic plants. I upgraded the lightning and switched from a Penguin Bio-Wheel to a Whisper. I only did this because my Bio-Wheel for 29 gals kept quitting. I added a big piece of driftwood which is staining my water a tad brown but I don't mind that.

I do have loaches. 2 gold dojo's, 4 kuhli's along with a big angel and a clown pleco. I did get the slate but I put it away and will save it for a future project. Anyway, that's what became of this tank. The angel, I don't know where else to put him right now so unfortunately he'll have to stay there.

Please don't put clown loaches in a 29g, they need a huge tank as they are so active and are everywhere.

I love clowns and hate seeing them in tanks too small for them.

Can you post pics of your tank, as it sounds lovely! I love loach tanks.

I posted a shot of it when it was first set up. It's pretty different now. The plants are started to do better now that I've got 55 watts over the tank and am using ferts. I'll get an updated shot of it onhere shortly.
