Payback from three bristlenose...

I am sure somehow someway I must have deserved this. I had my three brown BNs in a guppy tank that was being overrun with ramshorn snails. It got to the point that the BNs did not even like their cave, I figured because of the snails but what do I know. So I have a bright idea...yeah I get those sometimes...this one is just gonna make me work. So I take their cave out and take off the rubberbands and scrub it to remove all signs of snail eggs. I put it back together and put it in the fairly newly planted tank with the juvie Koi angels. I had some algea growing in there and figured they would make a quick snack of that and I would be able to see them better since this tank had more light and a lighter substrate.

I got up this morning and went about my usual routine...start coffee and feed fish while coffee is making. When I get to the planted tank....OH OH OH NO they did not!!!! But yes they did...they dug under their cave (two terra cotta pot bottoms with a hole cut in the side), through the sand, and into the dirt. My tank is no longer pretty light-colored pool sand....there is dirt all over the top of the sand and I mean all over. And they are still digging. The water looks like a terrible fog has set in and is there to stay.

See this is what happens when you make a fish angry...they will pay you back one way or the other.

I gotta get my regular siphon out and try to get the dirt off of the top of the sand....what fun....LOL.

Well I have to clean it up and I am not the least bit mad....it is just too funny to get mad. The angels on the other hand do not look happy about the mess. Oh but I was right about the algea...they cleaned the wall up really good!!! LOL

If you're not getting attacked by a protective JD mom, your bn's are making you clean mud. Bless your heart. If I didn't know how hard you worked to set up that planted tank, it would be hilarious. Those are some bad, bad bristlenose

At least there is never ever a dull moment around here! For some reason it is not mud...go figure...just looks like dirt laying there. But I think they are going to continue until they dig up the whole 50 pound bag. I was trying to give them some time to get tired of it before I cleaned it up but they are like kids with candy right now. At least they are having fun.

Maybe you can get Michael to catch it on vid

I'm VERY glad it's not mud. You're going to have to tell me how you did that. One day, I may have the courage to attempt that myself.

Well I vacuumed up all the dirt I could get and added in more sand to replace what I sucked out trying to get the dirt out. I replanted what I could see, which was not very much. I musta missed the article telling everybody how much these guys liked to dig. I really really do like the BNs I'm just not really happy with the little BN dogs right now. Okay now I am not so happy....hummm maybe a wee bit upset. They ruined it!!!! I can't even see through the water now. I see a fish swim by occasionally if he gets close to the glass. I do see two of the little bristlenose dogs stuck to the front of the glass....probably wondering why they can't see. Can you punish a fish?? and if so how?? JK but I am still not a happy camper. Maybe it will be better in the morning.

Well I can see through the water today believe it or not...still just a bit cloudy. Since they had decided to dig under their cave I took it apart and put the top down on top of the sand so maybe they would not dig so much. There is still some more dirt on top of the sand that I am going to have to get out somehow, gotta figure that out and I will take suggestions on that. For some reason it is not like mud thank goodness but I have floaty little wood pieces that need to be removed. I got the two female BNs at the auction and I ordered the male online....ToddnBecka had nothing to do with this mess.

Yep I will get right on the mud pics....especially since the little stinkers are still digging. I will be getting in there today and catching those three little ones and probably destroying what little is left of my planted tank in the process. If I have to get in that tank on my hands and knees they are coming out of there....might be a tight fit but I have had it with them!!!! I gotta find all my plants in the mess they made....half of them are buried and some are barely planted and some are floating and they are all supposed to be planted and they were nicely planted or so I thought anyway. They are moving to a different tank whether they like it or not and I strongly recommend to anyone not put BNs in a nicely planted tank since apparently they like to dig or mine do anyway.
