| New Spider Killer This morning, there was a large, not huge, spider in my kitchen. He was too high to reach and my aim wasn't good enough to squish him by throwing books at him. He was also too big for me to want to get close to him. I had no bug spray, so I sprayed him with "Pledge" wood cleaner until he fell down. He was all crinkled up when he fell. Then I squished him.
With the creatures wanting to come into our homes since it's getting cooler outside, I just thought I'd share this technique. It also works well if you're out of bug spray.
I need to add for safey reasons not to spray this stuff near your tanks. Always cover them first. This guy was not close to any of my tanks.
And my house smell good now Last edited by bolivianbaby; October 1st, 2009 at 06:49 AM.

| Spiders and scorpions are the only things that creep me out. My dog will kill scorpions for me and spiders if they're on the floor, but this sucker was high up there.
I've seen camel spiders on youtube. Those things are HUGE! |

Spiders usually live freely in my house, or I capture and release.
We had quite a few this summer. My kids were like..ummmm Mom, why are there so many spider webs in the house.
It did get kind of creepy so I set some free. |

| I prefer using hairspray, but I find that works best on wasps. With their wings stuck hard as rock they can't fly at you and can just be squished easily. (ten points for mohawk strength hairspray? Although I know from experience the yuecky cornerstore variety works decently too.) |

| I have no problems calling my son, who is 10, to kill all the spiders.
If noone is around I spray them with Fantastik w/ bleach then patiently wait for someone to get home to pick up the dead spider.
I will probably have bad dreams now after reading this post, thanks BB.

Brian | Never let your son move out. Human spider killers are VERY HARD to find.
I don't even have anything with bleach in this house, except for actual bleach. Hmmm. However, I don't think I could aim those bottles too well
I think next time I'll just take a picture of it and send it to ya via PM |

I've seen camel spiders on youtube. Those things are HUGE! | We have Bark scorpions around here ... and those things seem near impossible to get rid of.
IIRC, they are the most venomous scorpion in North America. |

| I'm not able to tolerate spiders....It seriously freaks me out..My sis was bitten by a brown recluse and it got bad and she was very sick..Ever since then all spiders in my house are fair game..I leave the ones outside alone and I respect them and know they serve a grand purpose...but if they come into my home, all bets are off. |

| Oh my, I too am the resident killer of pests, although the other week I was cleaning Wango and Tango's tanks and one dropped down into tango's and was instantly dismembered and devoured... was cool. I don't think any one can be ready for something like this though.... Yikes I hope our fishlore friends overseas serving are ok with these creepys.
sleep tight, Dave |
