Before Mr. Wizard was Elementary school (and HS) science class That is such a neat trick to do. Thanks for sharing that Now do you know why it works?

Not for me... I was only five when Mr. Wizard's World started up.

A genie is summoned by the four burning matches and, when he finds himself stuck in the bottle, he pulls the egg in so nobody else can have it.

A less popular (and totally un-supported) theory is that the matches (I think it was a candle on Mr Wizard's World) expand the air, and the excess pressure pushes up past the egg. Once there is no more oxygen to fuel the fire, the temp in the bottle begins dropping, and the air contracts. The air from the outside pushes down, attempting to equalize the pressure differential, and the egg gets pulled into the bottle.

Now, the fun part is making the kids get the egg back out of the bottle w/o breaking it. Some of them actually do figure it out.

That's what I learned at my school when I was doing that.
