| My Dad Has "The Bug":) Hey all, Me and my dad were just sitting outside eating our lunch on a nice summers day when he said "Hey Matt. What are you doing with your other tank" and i said "Nothing" so he says "Ill buy it off you for $400 as long as you clean it and feed the fish" so ofcourse i agreed. I am going to set it all up with him. We are going to the LFS next weekend to pick the fish. He says he wants me to pick them so i am going to get a few angelfish and a few clown loaches also a Pleco and maybe 2 gouramis

| How are you going to cycle it? I hope not with fish.
How big is the tank?
What kind of Pleco are you planning on?
Gouramis and Angels are almost always not compatible.
I know is a lot of info/questions but it is important so that you dont end up losing the fishies... FW is not the same as SW, with SW you have live rock which helps with the cycle, but with FW it is tricky. |

| Good points Alessa, there's no way that aquarium will be cycled and ready for fish in that time frame. You wont be able to cycle the aquarium for freshwater, using saltwater filter media. It's 2 completely different types of bacteria (not media)
It IS very nice in Australia this time of year..................... Last edited by soldieroffortune1974; November 30th, 2008 at 02:33 AM.

| So, is your tank cycled? what are your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?
we are just asking because as SOF said, in one week an empty tank (with or without a filter system) will not be ready, unless the person who has it kept it cycled somehow, or its using Tetra Safe Start.
It is not that we doubt your fishkeeping skills, please do not misinterpret (sp?) us. We are just looking after the wellbeing of your fishies. |

| Matt there is no reason to be rude to other members. Honest questions were asked of you, since you did post that next week you were going to go and pick out fish.
Everyone is trying to be helpful and no one was rude, so you really need to keep the posts civil here.
thank you, ~ kate |

| It's great that your Dad has caught MTS(Multiple Tank Syndrome) from you and that you are going to get to pick out the fish for the tank.
So share with us- how big is the tank? Quote:

After researching their needs and compatabilities with other fish let us know what you decide to put in that tank. some times the research is as much fun as the buying. Dad might enjoy shopping with you also. My banana men see your banana man LOL

Matt this will be a great sharing experience.

| Haha, my dad and I have MTS together, too. A few years ago, we gave him his 30g as a Christmas present, and a year later, he gave me my 30g to put his molly fry in. I have different fish in there now. And now we're planning on getting a huge saltwater tank- at least 100 gallons! Plus I keep pestering him to get me a 5g for a betta. |

| What size tank is it Matt?
I love clown loaches and have 10 all together, but i keep them in a 200g tank while they are still babies. How many are you planning to get? (Just a tip: make sure the tank is no smaller than 100g for the clowns, they need the swimming space).
Have fun setting up the new tank, make sure we see pictures.

| Gotta watch those I hear they're responsible for a number of missing fish.
Matt, you'll do fine, just make sure you allowing the tank to cycle. It usually takes about a month.
Take the time to research fish you'd like to have. Last edited by Lucy; November 30th, 2008 at 04:36 PM.
