Funny but unfortunate fish story...

hey! just wanted to share a funny/sad fish story...

many years ago, i kept a smallish tank of african cichlids. i had about 5-6, several different varieties, and i was new to them, but was aware that the tend to be fairly aggressive, etc...

well, the meanest little guy was probably the smallest in the tank. he chased EVERYONE. he never did any damage, but was definitely not shy. anyway, after a week or two, one day he just up and disappeared. the tank was a fairly sparse rock/shell setup... not much in the way of hiding places, but still i looked and found nothing. the top fit very well, no way he could've jumped out... no way he could've gotten into the filter. he was just gone. well so i figured that somebody in the tank must've gotten really ticked and just eaten him. but there were no remnants at all. nothing...

a few days later... yet another fish simply vanishes without a trace. i look, and i look... and nothing. i'm starting to get frustrated, what the heck?...

so... the next evening, i happen to walk into the room, and the cat is sitting on top of the tank LIFTING UP THE LID and reaching her arm into the tank. bad kitty!

Bahaha! That sucks, but it's funny. I'm not sure whether to ultimately laugh, or feel bad for you. Your cat must be skilled though, to be able to catch a fish in an aquarium where the fish could swim to deeper water.

Wow! I have 3 kitties and I am hoping that this never happens to me. I don't think they could find a way to get into any of my tanks, but one of them is pretty smart, so I wouldn't put it past her. What a double sided story! I feel bad for you and your fishies, but your cat sounds pretty hilarious.

Cats do the darnedest things!

I have a short bird story, I had a parakeet we let loose in the house. One day I looked up to some commotion over at the fish tank, and the parakeet was in the tank , before I could get over, he SWAM from one end to the other UNDER the glass, popped up and climbed up the air hose and out! Ruffled his feathers and off he flew.

This became a source of fun and entertainment, every time he wanted a warm bath, he never had a problem and lived a long clean life.....sometimes I had to clean feathers out but....

omg! How funny. I have never heard of a parakeet that liked water. That must have been a great source of entertainment in your house.

Thats too funny, but sad... We have two cats, one doesnt care about the tanks. They other loved to sit on top of the light and try and drink the water.. She never tries to paw at the fish though. They both hate water with a passion so I dont think they would be putting their paws in it to catch dinner.

my cat and my betta seem to be best of friends. The cat sits next to the tank and the betta swims up to him and then hovers there. I swear their having a conversation.
