My 70Gallon Tank guys. If you watch this, can you recommend me a background that would look make my fish stand out? Main fish are 7 discus (2 blue turquoise, 2 red melon, 2 blue diamond and a blood pigeon).
I've got the first 4 a week ago, and the other 2 just 3 days ago. And now they're eating like crazy!! They have acclimated into the new environment really well.
Second tank is my 10G, currently occupied by two 4.5" discus, they were infected with fungus and has been on medication for the last 2 weeks. I'm quarantining them in there for another month and see if they're fully recovered.

wow awesome tank!!!! I think just some black wrapping paper would be awesome on the back...then you can change it all the time !!!! black would make them all , even the tetras show up amazing!
Thanks shawnie. I thought of some black too, but I'm scared that they would affect the discus colors, they're only juveniles. And about changing background all the time, it isn't easy. The tank is up against a wall and its at least 600lb
PS: Sorry for the bad quality guys. I recorded it with a 8megapixel cam but somehow quality still isn't so great.

I have tanks like that also..but women seem to change aquascaping allot ...sorta like our house decorations ive never had discus so cant say on how it would effect them..but I can say for my africans and sa cichlids, they had more coloring and it was almost like they felt more safe without being able to see through the back and felt more protected...maybe some discus members would have better info for them particularly...goodluck and again, that is a fabulous tank!!!!
I wish I could find a feeding trap like yours grrrrrr..so much easier
The angels are in a 10 gallon tank (I know). They are suppose to be in the same tank as the discus, but they gave the discus a hard time, so I put them in there temporary until Sunday when my friend will pick them up. Sad to see them go (had them for quite a while), but that's how it has to be
Black is iffy to me. It can make some PB based fish pepper badly, very unsightly. You could try it though it will make every other color pop. Also your fish don't look peppered at all right now so they might have nice clean genes. You'd just have to try it and see. I'd probably try black first just to see the results.
My tanks are all light blue. The blue fish lightened and blended in some, but not to much.
Here are some with a simple white background (Wall possibly) with nice lighting from Dan and Gulf Coast Discus.
Another with a "white" background. Its a wall...but it makes a plain white background.
My pH is 6.8. I do 25% water change WITH gravel syphon every second day. I shift off all ornaments, plants and driftwood to make sure every inch of the tank is clean
And slug, the pigeon blood isn't heavily peppering but there are some on its body. I might try black background soon. Does the peppering goes away? Or once its there its there for the rest of the fish's life? And also do red melons peppered too?

Peppering can fade in and out as the tank changes. Its not always there forever. I noticed on at least 2 occasions, 2 of my PBs kept some of their peppering after the rest faded. However they had some to start too. If you have minimal to start, chances are it won't stay there after it fades back out (assuming you change something to make it fade).
The red melon line is originally PB based (Rather then Golden based like most of the red fish out today), so it has the potential to pepper. However with selective breeding and so many new Melon lines coming out today, you can easily find Red Melons without any peppering. PB based fish, will likely have black color along the edge of the anal fin, and have the black pigment distributed throughout the caudal fin. Golden based fish have black in the fins as well but its in a single band, never spread throughout. Its a good way to see as the fish is growing or is grown, if its PB based or not. If you need me to explain further let me know, .
It must be stated that Discus arn't normal fish. Some are bred to show color constantly regardless of environment. But the majority change with their environment. They darken when it gets darker, and lighten when its lighter.
