abot 1/3 of it is green and has guck on i t..do i wait till the whole filter is green? when do i know?

When you do a water change, rinse the filter off in the water taken out of the tank. That should be sufficient.

ye abut on average HO w long do these filters last?

I usually replace mine about once or twice a month, but I rinse it ever week. Mine is saltwater so I don't know if theres a difference in what to do.

I replace my filter once the water starts to use the bypass, and rinsing doesn't correct. usually about 1.5 to 2 months. I rinse every week with water changes also.
