holding plant stems together

I have a fake plant in my 5 gallon to make the water current weaker (by putting it in front of the water output) for my dwarf frogs. It has different stems that seemed to flow away from each other to i used rubber bands to hold all the stems together to make 1 big thick one. Are rubber bands safe for aquariums? also my dad said that they will disintegrate into the water eventually. Is this true? If so, what can I use to hold the stems together that is safe for my tank and wont disintegrate?

Re: holding plant stems together

Rubber bands are fine in your tank, but your dad is right they will get soft and break but it won't hurt your tank.

Re: holding plant stems together

you could try maybe one of those plant weight things - just wrap it around the stems. or a more permanent solution might be to silicone the stems together? hope you figure something out

I would think you could tie those up with a fishing line. I think that would be safe and last a long time.

Ty-raps would be easy to use and they come in small to large sizes.
