Which filter would be better for an oscar/african cichlid tank, a bio filter or a whisper type filter. If I go with a bio i am going to go with a marineland penguin 350 bio wheel power filter. If I go with a whisper type filter I am not sure what i will go with.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Either one will be ok, just get the biggest one you can with at least a gph of 10x the gallons.

That bio-wheel will certainly do the job well. But if you want to use the whisper filter equalivent then you can go with the model 30. Also if you go with the Whisper filter, make sure to get one of these for the filter insert (you'll need the regular size not the junior). You don't have to use the activated carbon filled insert if you don't want, you can just get some of this and cut it to size. However, the extra sponge and clamshell case to hold all of it in works really nicely on the Whisper filters (I have the Model 20 for my 20 Gal tank).
