I am planning to build a larger tank for my friends' goldfish. I work at a hardware store so this is considerably cheaper than buying a tank. We have some extra filters and several extra air pumps so we don't need to buy all of the equipment that seems to come standard with a larger tank, and she keeps the tank on a spare desk so we don't need a stand.

OK so, what I am wondering is if anyone has any advice as to A) whether to use plexiglass or regular glass for a tank 18x24x20; B) if putting a piece of plastic over the outsides of the corners would be enough reinforcement after the aquarium caulk on the inside (or what to use instead); and/or C) any other advice to someone building a tank for the first time.
