Powerhead

Hi all,

So I've decided to get a powerhead for my tank. If you've looked at my profile, ignore it, I haven't updated it for a while. It's a 75 gallon planted Swordtail tank w/ 3 AC 110 HOB filters. So my question is should I get the Hydor Koralia Water circulating pump or the Hagen AC powerhead?

The Hydor can be placed anywhere in the tank which sounds nice as I can put it close to the bottom where water is probably less dynamic but...

The Hagen allows for the addition of a filter which never hurts.

I've been torn between these two for over a month now so any opinions on either would be nice.

Hello Omnitheforsaken. Have you made a decision? Let's see what responses you receive today. With 3 Aqua Clear 110's @ 500gph each you should have a lot of bottom circulation as well. Since you are "planted" I understand why you want more movement. Are the fish handling the currents well?

I have no idea why you use three AquaClear 110 in a 75gal tank, more so if you are keeping Swordtails and not messy fish. Your actual water circulation might be overboard. So I don't see why you would want to add more. You could get by with just one of those.

Being a planted tank I don't get the need for so much water circulation. Excessive surface water agitation will decrease levels of dissolved CO2 (unless you are dosing Flourish Excel).
