55 gallon tank has a leak. what to do?

Hi all!

I could use some advice on what to do with this pickle Im in....

My 55gal glass tank is pretty old, it was a hand me down from my brother in law who had it for 6+ years and I know he got it from a yard sale so who know how old it is... I noticed the leak at the seem. Its a small leak but when I push on the glass I can see water moving in the seem. It just so happens that I bought a 75 gallon tank from my friend but its dirty and has calcium water lines I need to work on.

What do i do in the mean time?

Is my 55 gallon fixable?

Where can I get it fixed? (I live in Los Angeles Area)

What do you guys recommend using on the calcium water lines?

Thanks for your time and I could really use some advice on what to do.

HI gonzo welcome to Fishlore
Leaking tanks is not a major problem depending on where its located. From what i understand, its at the top of the tank, is it right?

Well, if that's the case, you can lower the level of your water, wait a couple days for it to dry, and then use some Aquarium Silicone. Not sure of the brand, but some members have used some other type, i cant remember the name. So, if the leak is on the rim( the top) you just carefully add some sillicone to the underside of it to make it stick again.
However if it is on the side, You might have to drain the tank, scrape off any silicone on the particular side, and then silicone agian, wait 48hrs and then fill the tank. You have to be careful while removing the silicone since leftovers will weaken the new sillicone. There are some threads about resealing a tank. If you go to the top right hand corner of the page, there will be a search box. Type in:
AQUARIUM SILLICONE or something similar, and read through the threads that come up on the answer.
Hope i helped

Yep, Tony's got you covered on the leak. I just want to add that a quick scrap with a razor will take those calcium deposits right off! I recently had to do the same thing to my new (used) tank. ***Just be careful - lol, I'm such a clutz I really shouldn't be allowed near anything pointy, so of course I managed to walk away with a few nicks here and there. A less clutzy person could probably handle the job and leave unscathed. Congrats on the new tank.

Also, WELCOME to fishlore!
