120 galloan - 150 gallon

Is it safe to have a large tank like this on the second floor of a one family home? The tank itself would be perpedicular with the cross beams under the floor......

Re: 120 galloan - 150 gallon

I would think ok if it's even on them so the weight is distrubed evenly but it would be best to contact a building contractor just to be safe so couple years down the road you don't have water all over your house.

If the house is sound and built to code no problem.

It also depends on the age of the wood for the floor and the area you live in. I know this because my grandfather was a building contractor and showed it to me in one of his many books on the topic.

I have my 135 gallon across the beams, much like what you described for 7 years now. No problems.

Re: 120 galloan - 150 gallon

id did 5 years of framing aprox 1500lbs will eventually sag your joists if put in middle of the span. if you find your bearing points and try to keep the tank as close to main bearing as you can you wont have a problem
