preparing a coconut shell?

how does one prepare a coconut shell to be used in a tank? its cleaned out, no meat left. does anything need to be done to it? or can i just throw it in?

they are a fun addition..but takes FOREVER for them to stay sunk LOL ...I had to have a rock to keep mine down..I finally gave up

mine stayed down no problem. i boiled it for a while, then stuck it in when it had cooled.

that is so irritating. i have that issue with the cuttlefish bones i put in for the snails. those things are impossible
