I'm just starting out on this and have been doing much research over the past weeks. I'm interested in a 30 or 36 gallon acrylic tank and I'm wondering where do people purchase their tanks? The few LFS I've been to either have a limited selection or don't carry them at all. Which online retailer would people recommend? Petco online seem to carry a wide variety.

You can look at drs. foster and smith, aquarium depot, amazon.com, whichever has the size you like and has cheaper shipping. Shipping a tank will be expensive. You can always check out craigslist.com in your area and see if anybody is selling used tanks as well.

You're going to find more glass options than acrylic as you go bigger because acrylic starts to get very expensive once you go over 20 gallons. Try Amazon.com. That's where I got mine. The prices there or any online site will be far better than anythng you see in a brick and mortar store. Shipping will be free if it's from Amazon themselves. But if it's from another merchant selling via Amazon's site, you will pay for shipping.
