Brace around rim of tank

I know for any tank thats 4 ft. or longer they're supposed to have a bracket-like thing that goes around the top to keep the tank from bowing out.

I recently bought a 75 gal. tank tha doesnt have this and i'm wondering is there any situation where the brace isnt needed? cuz this tanks glass is slightly thicker than what my other 75s tank is in its thickness... & was wondering if maybe that played a role in the tank not necessarily needing the bracket?

I just had a 55 gal. split down the middle and explode on me, not really too interested in going through sucha ordeal again

The old 75 gallon tanks apparently didn't need the center brace. My guess is that the glass was thicker or something. Mine is from 1984 and doesn't have it... that tank is almost as old as I am LOL.

If your tank is old enough to have been manufactured without a center brace, then I wouldn't worry about it. If it has been removed, I would worry for sure.

How's the 75gal center-braceless tank doing? What is the thickness of the glass in it?

Mine's been doing quite well since it was given to me a couple of years ago.

i havent set mine up yet... like i said i'm worried since a my similiar, smaller 55 gal split one night and idk y unless it was because of no bracket..

i have to reseal it and i actually just got done stripping the old silicone yesterday. I've vacuumed it out, cleaned the edges with alcohol, and touched it up a bit where i missed silicone and just needa clean it out real good before i re-seal it. i havent had much time to get around to it :/ lately have gotten a 2nd wind tho on gettin it up and goin.

i think i'll order another bracket to replace what should've been there. The thickness is just slightly thicker than a normal 75...dont know for sure exactly, just looks thicker, and the old silicone job was poor, thinkin it was homemade

anyways i'll keep ya updated!
