Upgrading tank size, techniques

Ok. I should have known I would eventually start thinking about this. I haven't told my man yet though; that might not go so well.

I know this is only a little jump, but since I was already given permission from the apartment complex to have a 20 gallon tank, I am wondering why I bothered with a 10.

I don't have the funds to do this just now, but I also know that "where there is a will, there's a way." I am carefully considering getting a 20 gallon to replace the 10. My question is a simple one I suppose. How do you go about doing such a thing if you are not supposed to move the tanks once there is water in it? My plan would be to place the 20 in the same location as the 10 is currently. I would like to keep at least part of the water; or most, I suppose since the size would be increasing. What is the easiest, cleanest way of doing such a thing?

This is all just in my head right now; I don't have anything in the works yet. I don't think I can get away with setting up both, because I don't think the apartment owners intended for me to have so many tanks (I already have separate ones for multiple bettas).

MTS kicking in higher gear hehe

Its pretty easy and just a matter of draining most of the 10 gal so you can physically move it...I would use all fresh water as there isnt much if any beneficial bacteria in the free floating water...if you are going to use the same subtrate and decorations, just switch them out when the new tank is in place...if not, just put them in a nylon and hide in the back of the tank for a couple weeks...you will see some cloudyness from everything being stirred up , but that should be gone overnight ....if you travel to NH , I have a few tanks now that could help the MTS along goodluck!

LOL indeed, I would love to keep both, but I fear retribution from multiple sources. I just have been really kicking myself lately. Why the heck did I not just get the 20?!

sometimes when we start out, we get scared going to big....when as we learn, the bigger it is the easier it seems to be to keep up to par...at least thats what it was for me

That is totally true, and I knew that already before I started; so that makes me all the more stupid.

Oh well. I know eventually I will just do this, it's just a matter of time now.

Well, I let the cat out of the bag on my plans (when we have the funds) and my man seemed to accept the situation instantly; so this means one of two things is true.

He probably accepts that I'm going to do what I'm going to do; and there is no point in arguing with me.

OR

He loves the fish just as much as I do and won't admit it!
