bubble splash gettin on my lights...

ok. so i have an open top that has a light rig that hangs the light about half an inch from the top of the tank.

well, i have an airstone and when the bubbles get to the top and pop they "spritz" my lights and tank edges and probably wall.

i built a "shield" out of acrylic. so it would stay off of the light. but now there is a glare from the top of the acrylic. it's a reflection of the bulbs and is really bright.

anyone got any ideas for either of my problems? i've restricted the flow of air using a gang valve so i only have a very few bubbles, but over the next few years i can see where it will get to be pretty gross.

Good morning. I have an Aqua Clear 70 on my 29g. Instead of using an air stone I purchased the Aqua Clear Fresh Water skimmer attachment. It was around $12. It adds oxygen into the water eliminating the need for an air stone. Too, it keeps any film from developing on top of the water. It's working great. I highly recommend it. You wouldn't have any more bubbles popping all over everything.

I would look into a glass canopy, you can still see into the top of the tank and no worries about water splashing..

Tank is flat top, no trim. And it would still get splattered with water.

On the skimmer, does it make any noise? Like sucking noises or how does it work? Got any pictures of it hooked it up?
