I don't know what the answer to the question is but maybe you should check if your aquarium is on leveled. That probably caused the glass to stress and crack.

wow can you get a pic? it sounds too unstable to repair and with a pic seeing exactly where the crack is, would help alot

its not the glass but the plastic piece on the top that holds the lids and lights, more specifficaly the center piece that crosses from front to back, thanx again

Well, I don't know if it can be fixed or not but I think you should seal it with silicone.

again, if you can get a pic, that would be great..if it was just the plastic that kinda goes around the entire tank, you can fix..but the bracket that goes from front to back, would make the tank unstable....maybe another member has better info !!

thank you shawnie that was my concern as well, if that piece cannot be fixed the front and rear glass would bow away from eachother and i fear they would eventually break as soon as i can i will get a pic but it is the piece that crosses from front to back, again i appreciate your info

id be very skeered as thats usually a main support as you said from the tank bowing..but im not positive...

My center strip broke on my 72g a while back. I took a 12 inch ruler and a rubber band and attached it to the center piece...you can adjust the ruler as needed sliding it to the front or the back of the tank depending on where it broke and the lids will still be supported. I had to change the rubber bands from time to time but it worked. I don't think you'll have to worry about the tank bowing.

I heard the guy at the LFS telling someone to measure the distance or make a template and get a piece of plexi cut. Then put the piece in with aquarium silicone to secure it. I agree it shouldnt be a support at all.

| The middle brace is there to support the middle sections of your hoods not to hold the tank together, take a soldering iron and weld the plastic back together Last edited by Bubba the Gump; March 9th, 2009 at 09:07 PM.

i would be pretty concerned. from what i know, its not there just to hold the lid on, the entire rim and center strip piece help hold the glass together. that is a lot of pressure from the water pushing out.

if that center strip was there for much added support I would think it would be alot wider and thicker, I agree it is a support brace but it being broken isnt going to render the tank inop., it can easily be welded with a soldering iron, quick and permanent fix.

in my 55 gallon tank there is a sticker on that piece that says Danger: do not fill with water if broken. Do not lift tank by this support.
