anybody know where to find a good priced stand for a 55 gallon, other than internet shopping? I like to see it ant take it home when I purchase and not but online.

building a stand would definitely be cheaper for you if you're willing to do that and you'd be able to see it for sure i'm in the process of building a stand for my 29 (on hold right now ) and surprisingly it isn't that hard, even for someone like me who has NO woodworking experience at all. here's the blueprint that i used, the only thing i would do different for a 55 (aside from the dimensions) is using 4x4 posts for the legs instead of 2x4s, and putting two 2x4s about a third of the way in from the top and bottom pieces (see the first picture in the thread) to help distrubute the weight

I bought my 55g stand at Petsmart and it really did not cost a lot at all, I was surprised, it was less than 100.00 for sure, exactly I dont remember tho some where around 79.00 I think. It has two glass doors and three open shelves in the middle. I think its a nice one. They have other styles there too.

Yeah I wanna build but all my tools are in storage in another state, I also dont have a whole lot of free time so It would take a while, I work as an industrial electrician so i usually dont feel like labor after a day of labor diggin trenches to lay out conduit.

i definitely understand that, my stand will be on hold until at least this summer, i managed to finish the top and bottom frame in about an hour (had the people at lowes cut all the wood to the dimensions i needed so it shaved off quite a lot of time!), the only problem i ran into was that i decided i didn't like the height that i had them cut the legs too (it was too tall and i was worried that the center of the tank was too high and would cause it to be less sturdy) so i need to take it back to have them cut the legs to the proper size and then just attach the legs to the frame. when i can afford it (hahahaha that may take even longer!) i'll end up covering it in plywood and trying to get some semblance of doors on the front as well
