5 gln QT advice on cycling

Hi there!
Well while I am waiting for my 20 gln to finish cycling(hopefully getting close) I decided to go ahead and set up a 5 gln quarantine tank. The QT will be only for QT of new additions and emergency and will not be set up permanently. Which of the two options do you think would be better for a QT...
1. Wait until my current tank cycles and add some of the extra media I have stowed in the HOB filter for seeding. How delicate is the cycle when its just finished? Would removing the extra media I put in there upset the balance too much since the tank will only have been cycled for a few days??
2. The LFS ( one I actually like!!) has TSS. Do you think it would be safer at this point with a newly cycled tank to go this route and how safe would TSS be for QTing delicate fish like Otos and Cardinals?
My biggest concern is that when the 20 gln is done cycling I will be in it at least 6 weeks. I dont want to lose my cycle its been too hard to get it done!
Thanks for all the patience and help everyone!

You should be able to use a small amount of extra media from the 20g to cycle the 5g, especially if you start out slow when stocking the 20g.

or even buy a small filter for the 5 gal and always keep it running on the 20 gal so you can just switch it over in the need for the qt tank...not to mention the extra filtration on the 20 gal wont hurt you probably will pay close to the same for a small filter that you would for tss

Thanks alot! I hadn't considered putting the filter on the 20 gln. If I have room that seems like it would make a lot of sense.
See, thats why you guys get paid the big bucks!!!
