New Tanks!

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted on here much, I've had tanks since I was 11 years old but I haven't had any for quite awhile. I'm finally in the position where I can get into fish again and so 6 months ago I bought a 10 gallon. Of course MTS hit and now I have the following: 2 10g stocked with platies (a BUNCH of babies), and recently a couple guppies. 1, 15 g with a couple goldfish, and a 26g with goldfish.

So I found someone selling 2 tanks on craigslist for a good price and brought home a 20 high and a 30 long. The 30g came with a power filter and an UG filter, the other with a power filter.

The 30g, I'm planning to move the goldfish currently in the 15 gallon into.

This leaves me, with a 15, and a 20 gallon. I'd like to do some live plants, something I've never done before ever, and also a community tank, probably a dwarf gourami, some tetras, platies (did I mention the zillion babies?) something like that.

Anyway, this long note is to ask. If you had these tanks, what would be your ideal? What would you put in them and why?

I'd put some Angels in the 20gal high, and do a small community tank in the 15gal.

you might want to upgrade the filter for the 30g, ug filters arent the best and with goldfish being pigs i would get a HOB or canister

the community tank you want (one dwarf gouarmi, tetras, platies) would be great in the 15 gallon tank. for the 20, i'd get just one angel, a small pleco (bushynose or clown or something), and maybe some kind of schooling fish (beware with anything small enough to fit in the angels mouth!!! the only way to try to prevent that is to get a juvenile angel and put it in with the schooling fish already established)

For the Gold Fish I would just put a Porta Potty next to the tank cuz u gonna need something really big to process that much waste or a super protein skimmer.

I'd put Angelfish in the 20 gal too!!! Also 3-5 corydoras!

The other tank I'd do a peaceful community of smaller schooling fish and a Dwarf Gourmai! http://www.elmersaquarium.com/c106community1.htm

Sounds like the 20 is pretty much unanimous. However I'm not a big fan of angels and would be tempted to do a underwater jungle with a lone male paradise fish with maybe a few ottos or a small plec. Or instead of the single Paradise maybe try a group of 5 or 6 dwarf puffers and nothing else. <FIX ALL YOUR SNAIL WOOES >
The 15 would make a great community tank and I'll let the others advise you on that.
Good Luck!

So, I thought I'd update this. The 20 gallon never got planted, but has a dwarf gourami, 4 long finned black skirt tetras, 2 glowlight tetras, and 5 neons. Plus a few platy fry (hey I ran out of space and they needed to go somewhere. The 30, has the goldfish temporarily. I put a powerhead on the UGF, and it has 2 filters rated at 50 gallons. The water is pristine and they love it. But, I'm searching out a 125 for them. The 15, bugged me to death because it's scratched and I ended up finding a 20 high for 15.00. That ended up being the home to 1 snail and 2 fantail goldies that'd I'd had in the 26. The 26, is now home to a gold gourami, 3 cories, 5 von rio tetras, and 5 neons.

My plan is to eventually get a 75 gallon and a 125 gallon for the goldfish. The 30 will then become a livebearer tank for the platies, and the 10s will become divided betta tanks. Of course certain family members are annoyed by the oceanic effect, I find it calming . And now dream of a home with a basement I could turn into a tank room....

Amen to that, although I have the space for the tank room, I don't have the approval.
