Help I just broke my Hood!!!!

I just stepped on my hood which was on the floor because I'm adding new fish to the tank. I had assumed that the clear part where the light sits was plastic because it is on one of my other tanks. It was glass and I just broke it. I need to know what I can use an emergancy hood. I'm assuming that I can get a replacement. The tank contains a betta and to coolie loaches.

Is the glass in the hood necessary?
You may not even need it..for short term till its fixed anyway

The glass isn't but the hood is. I can't use it because there is still glass in the hood. I just got these fish tonight and I don't want them to jump. The betta is a color I've never seen before.

I'm assuming the cool is for my betta. I will be getting pics up but not tonight.

Does anyone know If I can just throw a towel over the top of my tank for tonight?

I did that once. Don't feel bad. It happens. Well I had to get a new one but I am a chef so there is always a lot of plastic wrap in my house. I just wrapped the top with the plastic. But if the light sits on top I would leave it off until you fix the problem. Don't want to melt or burn the plastic then you could have a real problem!!

Yes it would. I'll put up the towel then. My room gets enough light from the big window during the day and the light over the other fish tank (desk lamp) brightens up my whole room.

Don't feel bad about it, probably you can get a replacement easily. A towel would do the trick pretty well, good idea, now I know what to do if something like that happens to me... please don't forget to upload a pic of your Betta boy, we want to meet him!

I burned the lamp hood at the canopy of my 29g bow tank as I left 60Wx2 incandescent bulbs close to the hood as I was testing something while watching a MLB game... got distracted... ended upgrading the hood with a DIY canopy I made with parts form the old one and a standard new one I had to buy, now I have 1.5WPG instead of 0.75 so my plants love it!
