Wood for tank.

I hope this is in the right place.

Anyway, I went hiking at a creek in the mountains near my house and found a really lovely little log that I would really like to add to my 55 gallon tank. It has some purple streaks on it, though, and I think they may be from the fire-retardant chemicals they spray for forest fires. Does anyone have any idea if the log would be safe to add to the tank? Is there any way to make it safe? (Like, seal it or something?)

Boiling it for a good while should help.

Hi there

I’d love to see what they guys have to say. I was also thinking of adding some wood... and also don’t know what to do to make it safe for my fish.

I can't boil it-- it's too big to fit in any of the pots we have. I did pour boiling water all over it a few times, and it's soaking in a tub right now. Can't have all'a those tannins getting into my tank. =P

Yes, and that's all well and good for some people, but those people are not me. I don't have bright enough light-bulbs for that, though, and I spent far too much time rinsing my sand to allow something else to make the water less than clear. XD

Hrm, I'd really like to get this thing into the tank if it won't kill my fish. =/

No one knows about the purple anti-fire chemicals?
