Glass etching on an aquarium

Has anyone ever tried to do glass etching on an aquarium? I was thinking about decorating one of the smaller tanks with some glass etching on the sides. I am hoping to find a nice betta stencil to etch on the aquarium.

Should be fine. I personally wouldn't do it because it weakens the glass. I doubt if it would automatically blow out that side of the tank, but it is something that should be done with GREAT care.

If it works out though we would love to see pics.

I definately would NOT do it while the fish are in the tank, though. (Vibrations, caution just incase the glass failed, etc)

Never seen it before, but it sounds like it would be a very interesting and unique look! Awesome idea... Just be sure to get what you want the first time, lol...

Post lots of pics if you decide to do it!

It sounds pretty cool. I don't think I'd want done the front, I enjoy looking at my fish too much to have it somewhat distorted.
I also worry about compromising the glass.
Maybe, the sides.

It would look awesome though, I love etched glass, post some pics if you decide to do it.

Actually chemical etching does not weaken the glass at all. That is only in sandblasting that it would cause the structure to weaken. It will be done on an empty aquarium of course. I can't really find any stencils I like. I may have to make my own. I found this pic that might look pretty good to make a stencil from.

I would be sure to etch the outside. Even chemical etching is a little rough. My daughter did some Christmas ornaments for me and they were beautiful.

It will definitely be on the outside. I would be too afraid that the chemicals could get left behind. I'm going to try it on the aquarium I replaced the pane of glass on recently. I figure that one is on a second life anyway and won't feel bad if I mess it up.
