Advantages of a cover

I'm thinking about buying a cover for by 10 gal tank, but i dont know if it would make any difference besides looking better. Ive heard that the water will get warmer becuase the heat from the heater wont escape, but I would like to know more about it. any help would be appreciated.

The cover is also there for keeping the fish from jumping out, they do occasionally like to take a "leap". The water evaporates also, and w/ the cover it can slow the evaporation I know I have glass covers for 3 of my tanks and the water loss from evaporation is much slower. (then again I change my water on wed and sat so it doesn't get the time to drop in levels anyways). However, they do say the glass tops help w/ evaporation compared to the others.

The tops have so many advantages to them, having the lights in them, protecting the light from water splashes, once again keeping your fish from jumping, evaporation, heat in the tank as you mentioned...

The lid also protects the tank from things getting in........dust, pets, insects and children to name a few.

That one's a biggie - keeping stuff out and in this dry climate, all the help to slow evaporation that we can get is welcome.
