Upgrading

I have a ten gallon tank with 4 guppies and 3 otto's (is that overstocking??)

I have the urge to upgrade but tanks are so expensive including the stand. anybody have any tips on buying tanks with stands cheap? and what tank size to upgrade to?

Keep an eye on Craigslist and your local paper's classifieds. I see 20 and 30 gallons tanks constantly on my local craigslist for dirt cheap. Then you may even be able to get rid of your old one that way as well to offset the cost of the new one. If MTS hasn't hit yet...

If it were me I'd go for a 55. Reason is, other than 10 gallon tanks one of the most often purchased is a 55. They always have good prices, and you often see them for sale used. You should be able to get the whole thing, minus a stand, for under $100. A 55 is not so heavy that it takes a special heavy duty stand. I have one on the couter top in my kitchen.....

I don't think your 10 is overcrowded, but I wouldn't add anything. If your guppies have many babies, it will be overcrowded.

Good Luck with the MTS, I hope you can find something you can afford.

Your 10g is only slightly overstocked and if you do 25% water changes 2x a week and clean the tank weekly, you should be able to keep the water good. Just test before each water change to make sure.

As far as upgrading - fish clubs, yard sales and craigslist are often a good way to find deals on tanks, etc. The bigger, the better as far as how big to upgrade to.
