Marineland Explorer PH Problem

OK... I have one of these small little tanks... 2g, with its own little filter and light all in the hood. The hood is totally enclosed. There are small vent holes on the top above the light fixture, which I assume, is for the heat from the light to escape.

Here is the problem, I just did a water reading and the ph is pitifully low, at 6. My tap is 7, and all my other tanks register about 7-7.2 normally.

There is only the 1 Betta in the tank. My question is this, why is the ph so low? Is it because the hood isnt releasing the carbon dioxide or what? There is nothing in the tank but gravel and a fake plant.

Increase your water change amount.

Are you stirring the substrate when you do water changes?
What is the substrate?

A drop in pH like that is probably do to organics breaking down in the substrate, not built up co2.

Thanks. Its a new set up, since 9/16, so I wasnt figuring to much waste build up... its just gravel and a fake plant. Ill do a larger water change tomorrow.
