Hi

I am looking for a place where i can get some black sand or gravel.
I need to cover a 1880X55cm bottom with it so it should be a view bags.

Thanks all

Hello Gebhardt I have seen black sand and gravel in some of the smaller "mom and pop" fish stores whereas the chain fish stores didn't carry it. (especially the black sand) I'm sure you'll get some more responses as well. Too, check Lowes and Home Depot if you have them in your area. I'm not sure if they carry different colored sand or not.
I hope you can share some photos once you're all set up!
Good luck!

I have tahitan moon sand (TMS) in several of my tanks. It's expensive ($1/pound), but it sure is beautiful.

Seachem makes "black onyx sand" for planted tanks. It too is expensive but if you plan on having rooted plants this may be the way to go.
Dr. Foster and Smith is the best place to get it online as their shipping is the least expensive. They used to charge by the dollar amount but if I am not mistaken went to a flat rate of 5.99 no matter what the weight or dollar amount. Can anyone else confirm this? I just remember an email from them recently.

I can confirm that they do not add extra shipping charges for the weight, which is why I get it from them. Everywhere else, the shipping costs as much as the sand. I couldn't believe when I put 3 bags - 60 lbs - in my crt and went to check out, the shipping was only like $12.

I don't know if the sand is included in their $6 flat rate shipping promo, but either way is better than the $40-$50 every other place charges.

They make flourite black sand. It's really fine and great looking plus it's good for plants as well.
