can you mix fine gravel and sand?

Hi,

I'm doing a tank and I'm planning on getting some loaches & catfish, I got fine gravel, but I was wondering is it possible to mix gravel and sand, or not?

If so, is sand ok with a power filter?

Thanks

When you mix two different textures such as the gravel and sand one or the other winds up on the bottom. Loaches really like sand but I have kept them successfully with gravel. I personally would choose one ot the other. let us know what you do

I use a fine grade of gravel that looks like sand. It's much easier to wash (before using it) and doesn't suck up as easily into the siphon when doing partials. Sand will eat power filter impellers very quickly if it reaches them.

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll probably stick with just the gravel I have then, it's pretty small pebbles so hopefully they will be able to enjoy digging in it
