Activ-Flora

Hey all! Has anyone used Activ-Flora substrate in their tanks?
It was much more sandy than I had wanted, but it looks pretty good in it's black variety. The substrate is so fine, I find that a thin film of it floats on the top of the water and sticks to the walls. Anyone else have this problem?
Also, it claims that it has all of the bacteria needed for instant cycling, but am a little hesitant. Have you had any luck?
Thanks!

I've gone ahead and started cycling this tank, but would like to go on the record saying that the activ-flora brand is not worthwhile. As far as supporting plant life, so far it seems to be doing well, but there is a film on the top of the water line that has yet to go away. I have done water changes, yet a small layer of the finer bits of substrate lingers on the top. This is not acceptable seeing that I already have a low light tank. This film slightly blocks out the little light this small tank receives.

Hello dtree. I wish I could have helped you but I'm not familiar with the product. I would be hesitant as well to believe that anything will create an instant cycle other than seeding a tank. Keep us posted on the knowledge you gain.

There is a "reviews" section (misc. reviews) of the forum (go to the top left hand side of this screen and click on Forum Home, scroll down to "reviews") that post #2 would do well in and would be a big help to other members. If you wouldn't mind to make a post there with your findings. I don't want to move the thread because I'm sure you'll get more responses here.

Thanks
Ken
