Help me decide!

I have a 15 gallon aquairum with some old pink and purple gravel in it from the last time it was set up, and I need to buy some more gravel. Lately I've been thinking on changing out the gravel instead of just buying more pink/purple and switching to black since I've heard it makes the fish colors look better?

So does black gravel make your fish look better? What are the pros and cons of black gravel? Does it make the tank way darker? And how much gravel should I get for a 15 gallon tank?

thanks!

I don't know the calculations for how much gravel is needed, but I highly recommend getting a dark colored substrate. The dark substrate doesn't make the tank too dark, but it does make the fish's coloration stand out. This way, the fish don't have to compete for best coloration against the bottom of the tank. I have lighter gravel, put its heavily planted, and this also helps make your fish POP! I would also recommend a tank background, either with a picture of a planted aquarium, or all black.

I do have a tank background and it seemed to help the fish's coloring. I'm going to order some black gravel too. Thanks!
