I am getting my substrate for my tank (the 29g cragslist tank) and I am needing a good substrate for it that would be great for plants and soft/acidic water. Also Congo cichilds... (not the little diggers that I have in my other tanks)

i would just go with either fluorite or eco complete (i'll have to double check if it does anything to pH but i'm tempted to say that it doesnt), IMO mixing either with sand or gravel just makes a mess (from personal experience), and i actually like the way that it looks with just one of those. if you had diggers in the tank it might be better to put some pool filter sand on top, but without them i think it would be fine with just the fluorite/eco complete
