try your local hardware store. I bought mine at $10 a bag. Pricey, but worth it.

I used playground sand by Quick Cereate $4 bucks a bag you just have to rinse it in a bucket with a hose and run the water and stir untill the water runs clear. It's a little more work but saves you $6 bucks a bag and its 50lb bag.

Playground sand has sharper edges to it b/c it's finer. Pool filter sand has rounded edges.

Sand isn't the best choice for mbuna, they need something they can pick up w/ their mouths and move. They love to dig dig dig. Crushed coral does really well, or the specific "cichlid substrate" is great as well.

not the the Quick Cereat had a friend who worked there and the made both pool filter and playground sand the playground sand has smaller grain #20 but is rinsed and tumbled the same way pool filter sand is. So its the same sand but the playground sand comes off first in the rinse and screening whats left after that screeneing in what they call pool filter sand. My Black Kuli's love it an haven't lost one in 2 years I have 9 BK's.
