i have problem with my white pebbles -- please help

Hi all ,

I am new to this forum as well as to this hobby.
I really enjoy doing this , and happy the fullest .

But i have few queries that some body can help me with to better my experience

1. I have a 20 gallon tank with white pebbles of aroung 2 to 3 cm diameter because of this the bottom feeders dont get any food , all the food just runs into the pebble gap and gets deposited in the filter below .
what can i do for this.

2. give me some good suggestions for picking up a good sand type for my aquarium with the following >>>>> fishes 6 angels ( 2 - 4" marble / 1- 2" marble / 2 - 2" silver and 1 - 2" white angel) along with this i have 2 small white shark, 2 golden gowrami, 2 blue gourami, 2 moor and 1 pleco.

Hi v_arundev

most bottom feeders can get food ...they like the challenge of finding it also..just dont over feed...im more worried about the amount of fish you hae in a 20 gal...you are severely overstocked and stunted growth on your angels might be harmful....the gourami's and angels get very territorial and will end up killing one another without the space to get away ....the moor's like cooler temps than the other tropical fish and are big big waste producers as is your pleco...im not sure what you mean by white shark...but returning some of those fish will help alot....

also a great link for you to read, http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm ...this link will save you from lots of issues that may arise from a new tank ...goodluck~

Hi welcome to fishlore.
Shawnie gave you very good advice.
If you think your bottom dwellers aren't getting any food, you can use some sort of flat piece of aquarium-safe something... like a clay pot maybe... and put the food on there so that it doesn't fall into the substrate.

You could try those algae wafers that look like little disks. I don't think you'll lose them below your gravel very quickly. The bottom feeders love them.
