Lava rocks

I have good news. We went to the beach, and I found a pound of lava rocks. But I have a ?. Why is it called lava rock?

Because its from a volcano, its cooled down lava that leaves holes where the gas pockets were

I thought so, but the closest volcano is St.Helens. We're miles away in Bremerton, so it must have traveled far.

It depends on how far away that is lol, eruptions can shoot lava and small rocks into the upper atmosphere, effectively spreading them for very long distances away from the actual volcano

If you're thinking of putting that in your 38g tank, I'd rethink it. The cories are likely to explore it, and will rip their tender little barbels and bellies up.

I have my 58g cichlid tank full of lava rock, it works good for cichilds I don't know how well it works w/ other fish.

The last time Helens blew it's top it shot ash all throughout the Midwest, so to believe pieces of lava washed up in bremerton is completely believable. I'm referring to the 80's eruption, I don't really count that last little steam blow off she did.
