Sand - I rinsed it. Now what?

I bought some sand today so I can begin replacing the substrate in the aquarium I am getting tomorrow. I rinsed it well and now I'm not sure what to do. It still has water in it from the rinsing and I'm afraid the water that comes from my tap is fully chlorinated. If I add the sand as is, won't the water kill the bacteria already in the tank? Should I put a few drops of Prime in it first?

Thanks!

Just add some conditioner to your tank and you should be fine.

Thank you, Christian Patti. I will do that. I also have some advice for you:

Never rinse out black sand in a new fiberglass whirlpool tub. Just don't. Especially if another high-ranking member of the household is not home, but would not approve. If you find yourself in this unenviable position (as I did tonight), Soft Scrub with Bleach is your best friend!

LOL. I enjoyed your advice.... a tip though if you have to rinse sand again... put it in a pillow case and use the sprayer in the kitchen sink to rinse it until the water runs clear. Then take the pillow case to the laundromat and wash it there ;-)

Thanks, catersun. You would have split your sides laughing if you'd seen me trying to clean up that mess before husband came home! If he ever found out, I'd never hear the end of it.

Thanks, also, for the advice. I will need it in a few weeks. I'll be changing out the rest of the substrate then.
