i dont know where to look this info up so i thought i would ask on here. is it safe for these fish to have sand?
bala shark
black shark
pleco
pictus cat
tiger barb
african butterfly
rainbow shark
and also if no ones knows a certain fish then how would i go about finding out?? thanks in advance!!

Unsure about the sharks. I can't imagine the butterfly would have a problem, since it hovers near the surface.
I think plecos do okay in sand.
Tiger barbs I'm not sure of. I have a gold barb that likes picking at the substrate for food, so swallowing might be a concern.
When thinking about substrate (or water quality, or food, etc...), you can try to find info on where fish live in the wild. You can often go beyond their natural habitat's parameters, but this is a good beginning.

i have a clown pleco in my sand tank. sands fine with any pleco

Rosalie, there's no need to post different threads for each fish. If you post several different threads, you might end up missing a crucial response in one of them. Far better to just have the one thread that covers the whole issue.
