sand

is it bad to mix two types of sand?
i bought a 20 pound bag of caribsea rio grande sand
and i want to mix it with smaller sand

It should not be a problem.

Over time, the larger grains will settle to the bottom.

you should be fine but as Dino says the larger grained sand will eventually sift down to the bottom.

I've got course river sand mixed with gravel in one of my tanks...and its the fine stuff that goes to the bottom in mine, all the big stuff comes to the top

Trust mine to be different *L*

yea im pretty sure the fine grain sand will be at the bottom, and the bigger grain sand will be on the top

well doesnt it depend on a fine sand to larger sand ratio?
i mean..
if there is more finer sand...
shouldnt the larger grains settle to the bottom?

Nope...i have far more sand than gravel...and its the gravel that comes to the top.
