Rock border

How can i make a rock border to seperate gravel from sand?

well what i want to do is make a wall out of rocks to seperate the sand fromt the gravel

Get some flat rocks, like slate, and build a small wall that way (someone here did just that -- chief waterchanger, I think). Flat rocks would have less cracks and spaces for the sand to seep through.

that sounds like a good idea
but wont the sand still seep through the small cracks?

You'll get some mixing, but not as much as with big rocks. You could also put a liner behind the rocks to keep the sand in place -- a piece of fish-safe pond liner would work.

And you can of course always seal the bigger cracks/holes in the rock wall from behind with aquarium silicon.

aquarium silicon? is that some sort of sealent?

Yes -- it's the same stuff used to join the corners of the tank glass together. You can get it at any LFS, and most hardware stores. Make sure it says 'aquarium silicon' though. Regular household or construction silicon has compounds in it that can be toxic to fish.

kool. I think i'll just glue all the rocks together to make a wall then. =] hopefully when im done i'll post pics of it
