Mixing gravel and plant substrate

Anyone ever hear of First layer pure laterite. It says its made to mix with regular gravel and I was wondering if anyone has every tried this method or if they have heard if the product is any good.

I used it in my 56g, and the plants are all doing great. I mixed it with the first layer of gravel (one 25lb bag), and then put the second layer of gravel on top of that. Other than turning the water brown for a few days (which the carbon in the filter cleaned up), it's been fine. Do follow the instructions and rinse it as best you can first.

No, the laterite doesn't affect pH. But don't obsess too much about the pH -- it's more important to the fish that it's stable, rather than a particular level. Most fish will adapt to the pH in the tank so long as it doesn't fluctuate.
