Saltwater Conversion

Hi all, I have a silver tipped shark that is about 2 years old and I have read alot that later in his life (almost full grown) he will become a saltwater fish, well I think he is almost full grown at about 11 inches, and I have him in a freshwater tank that gets salt (about a tablespoon per 10 gal) and I was wondering if I setup a full saltwater tank and put him in there would he be fine or would he go into shock or stress him to bad, im wondering how to get him into a full saltwater setup.

You should very slowly change the salinity. Start with a low brackish, using marine salt. Just add a little and raise the salinity by no more than .002SG each week (so that the biological filtration can keep up with the changing salinity levels) until you reach the desired salinity.

The silver tipped shark at 11 inches is only about half grown. As PFP stated raising the salinity levels by .002 SG is a good if not mandatory idea.

To raise the SG of the aquarium by .002 SG you add .0232 oz salt/2 gal. In 55 gallons you would add .638 oz salt ( .0262 X 55 '/, 2 = .638 )
