Red Tailed Shark

I had a red tailed shark in a 20 gallon tank and the fish seemed to be doing fine, but recently he became aggressive. So I moved him to the 44 gallon tank I got for Christmas. Now all he ever seem to do is try to hide himself vertically in the plants.....is there something wrong..... I have done lots of partical water changes, added stress coat and even ich medicine. But nothing I do seems to make any difference. Any advice??

Welcome to Fishlore!!

Redtailed sharks due tend to get more aggressive as they age.

What else is in the 44 with the shark?

Skip adding any more ich meds.
If you see ich spots, slowly raise the temperature to 82F.
The free swimming live stage of the ich organism cannot tolerate that heat.

How frequent and how big are your water changes?

Do you have a cave or log he can hide in?
They really do better with a place to hide.

In my 44 gal. with the red tail is 1 other shark 2 large goldfish and 1 very small goldfish.

I forgot to say I usually do a 10-20% water change.

Hopefully, I will get better at this and get all the questions answered at once.
Yes, there is a large hollow log for him to hide in!!

Temperature?

Goldfish prefer 60-70F.

Sharks prefer 76-82F.

How often do you do your changes?

Red Tailed Shark

Since my tank is new, and I thought I had new aquarium problems ( cause my water seemed to be cloudy) I was doing a 10% change almost everyday.
At least for the last week. I have my water temperature set at about 75. Trying to find a happy medium. From everything I read, raising the water temp would help me get rid of any ich. I thought??

If you raise the temp to 82 and keep it there for 2 weeks it will rid you of ich, HOWEVER the goldfish can not tolerate that heat for that long.

You should never house temperate water fish (goldfish) with tropical fish (red tail shark)

eh its difficult.
It sounds like its got popeye. You'll need some meds, and remove the carbon filter after applying the meds
