Shrimp will succumb to ammonia poisoning just like fish. Though they do not produce much waste and they tend to clean up whatever excess food you put with them, it will produce enough ammonia to kill them; shrimp seem even more sensitive to this than fish. I really suggest seeding their tank asap with cycled material.

(Can't wait to see pics of your little dudes. They're SO pretty!)

how about using some filter media from an estasblished tank..I also use some gravel from older tanks placed in new pantyhose... The water will NOT hold any benificial bacteria...make sure to add a declorinator.....hope this helps...Ive dont 3 tanks like this ...all been very successful..in 1 I had to do real quick...I had babies that had to be moved immediatly ( I didnt even lose a single baby)...I keep extra media in all tanks now just for that purpose..the gravel in the pantyhose(I have 3 bags of it.)..have just been moved from tank to tank

Well, the water really doesn't contain a significant amount of bacteria. Can you transfer a piece of decor or a bit of spare filter media from each of the five tanks to the shrimp tank; a little from each will lessen the chance of a mini-cycle. Though, I'm assuming this is smaller and will cycle very quickly...what size is the tank gonna be?

i have a filter from my other tank that the filter cartridge has been out of the water for 3 days, but its still damp? the filter intake is covered with pantyhose and has been in the water since.. can i put this filter in the new tank and will the pantyhose hold the bacteria if the filter cartridge is too dry and it all died?

Hello Enthusiast. I'm not sure I would trust the filter in question to contain enough bacteria to keep your tank cycled since it hasn't been running for 3 days. It's hard to say. Not only have the bacteria been starved of a food source but starved of oxygen as well.

If it's any way possible for you to transfer a working established filter or even just some filter media from one of your other tanks filters, even a terra cotta pot that was in an established tank would help, or nylon hose full of established aquarium gravel is going to be your best bet.

If you do transfer something from an established tank make sure you haven't used any medications that contained copper. You don't want to mix copper and invertebrates period.

Best of luck and I hope you can share some photos once everything is settled.
