Is my tank safe for shrimp?

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking of getting a few shrimp to add to my tank, either cherries or ghosts (cause they're what my LFS carries). The only thing I am worried about is if the fish I have in my tank will eat/harass them...Does anyone have experience with the types of fish that I have? Also, my rainbow shark is still small (2in), but I'm not sure if that makes a difference...

Thanks for your help!

The bolivian rams and rainbow shark will eat the shrimp. I wouldn't bother adding them. Its a bummer, I know. I want to add shrimp to my tanks as well, but I don't want to have my money wasted when they get eaten, lol.

I agree with MissMTS. The shrimp would most likely be eaten by your Rainbow shark as it grows.

You could prolly get away with bamboo shrimp. They are huge, mine is close to 3 inches, and not likely to be seen as food by any fish as not many aquarium fish could fit it in their mouth.

Check out petsmart or petco as I have seen bamboo shrimp there from time to time. I bought mine at a local non-chain store so you may have luck finding some at a non-chain around your area. They are a bit pricey though at around $8 a pop.

I do agree though that smaller shrimp species would be snacks for that shark.
