Is there a point to the cone

Hi ppl i just noticed that one of my snails cones (the bit that swirls into a point) faces in the opposite direction to the other ,, meaning when you look at them straight on ,one goes one left, and the other goes right way, if that makes sense lol.
Is it just a parent thing that was handed down.
i have one brown snail and one golden snail ??/

That sounds kinda weird.
I have no idea what it is.

Re: Is there a point to the cone

As far as I know, it's just natural variation in the snail population, and decided mostly upon the handedness of the mother (i.e. the snail will inherit its mother's chirality).

But I found a pretty neat article about the usefulness of variety in handedness here - http://www.bookofjoe.com/2006/04/why_some_snails.html.

And here's an abstract from a study which investigated the genetics of this dimorphism - apparently, it's determined by a single gene, which is pretty cool. http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2005NW.....92..504S
