| RCS - Temperature Question I am finding that it is hard to keep my water below 8 I am setting up a 10 gallon tank for RCS. I am finding that it is hard to keep my water below 82 degrees in this 10 gallon tank.
Is this going to be a problem? Should I try moving the tank to a cooler spot?
Thanks! |

| No i do not think at 82 degrees it would harm the fish but it would stress them out . If you go to your local fish store or even walmart, they have fish heaters that dont only heat them , they also ( if they get to hot ) cool them down. There are also heaters that you dont have to set they just stay at 75 to 78 degrees. The bigger the tank the bigger the heater. They arent to pricey so i do reccomend getting one . hope this helps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| hmm, i disagree. heaters don't cool anything down, they would just shut off if it was too warm (which yours is), meaning that they would just be sitting there. IMO a waste of money for you.
i'd try maybe hanging a bag of ice in the tank for a little bit, don't let this go on too long and make sure you move it around so one spot isn't freezing. i'm going to look for the thread that has lots of suggestions for this for you... |

| Welll i have two aquariums , one is the kind of heater that makes the temp stay at 75 to 78 degrees and i also have the one that makes it cool two...... it came with the aquarium and the brand is ALL-GLASS AQUARIUM ...... though i may have just sounded a little stupid ... keep in mind it came with the 2 gallon aquarium so it may just be the aquariums name written on it.....lol |

| Yes, regular aquarium heaters don't cool, (that i know of). The only things that "cool" (not only shut off) are called aquarium chillers which are sold for reef tanks and are really expensive . |

| One thing to consider is we don't know where jmm lives. He may be in a hot climate which is what's making his tank water so warm or his heater may be the wrong size for his tank.
A little more info would be helpful from the OP would be helpful. |

| I have a heater that I got from Wal-mart for my tank that has a setting on it for it to stay at 78 degrees and you can set it higher or lower depending on what you need for your fish. I haven't had any problem with it so far and the temp stays right at 78 all the time. My blood parrots love it because it is submersible and they can get right next to it and get warm, they almost lay on top of it sometimes....silly little guys they are. |

| now that I know what RCS is LOL, 82 is borderline too high I think..but workable with some extra air stones or bubble wands...you can always put a fan close by to try to cool it down...is ga warm this time of year? |

| What's the temp of the room the aquarium is in? Is it possible that your heater is broken?
I agree, I've never seen a heater that cools too. Heaters will heat the water to what you set it at (or the pre-set temp) then turn off when it reaches that temp. When it senses the water cooling it will turn back on again. |

| This may be a silly question, but you don't have incandescent lighting, do you? |
